LEICESTER’S Max Clegg finished second in the National Development League Riders’ Championship at Scunthorpe on Sunday.

Clegg, a former winner of the event, was representing his NDLRC club Kent where he has enjoyed a high-scoring stint in the second half of the season.

He scored 13 points from five rides, being edged out for the title itself by Jordan Jenkins, but Clegg did beat Jason Edwards in a run-off for runners-up spot.

The Lion Cubs’ representatives, Dan and Joe Thompson, both enjoyed strong meetings but finished off the podium.

Dan was consistent throughout with five second places to score 10, whilst Joe finished on nine after wins in his first two rides.

Meanwhile the Watling JCB Lions are no closer to knowing their Championship Grand Final opponents as Sunday’s semi-final between Glasgow and Poole was abandoned due to rain after five races.

The Ashfield meeting will have to be re-run in its entirety, and the teams will try again in Dorset on Wednesday in what becomes the first leg.
